Being a teenager today can be overwhelming. Many young people struggle with stress, friendships, family changes, or figuring out who they are. Teen counselling provides a safe, supportive space where your child can be heard, understood, and guided through life’s challenges.
Counselling can help your teen with:
Anxiety, sadness, or mood changes

Family or relationship conflicts
Self-esteem and confidence
Coping with life transitions
With counselling, your teen can learn to express their feelings, build resilience, and develop healthy coping skills—helping them navigate adolescence with confidence and hope.
Relationships are an important part of our lives, but they can also be challenging. Our relationship counselors are here to help you and your partner improve communication, build intimacy, and strengthen your relationship. We offer couples counseling and marriage therapy services.

Counselling is a talking therapy that provides a safe, confidential space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences with a trained professional. It’s a place where you can speak openly and honestly, without fear of judgment.
People come to counselling for many different reasons — to manage anxiety or depression, rebuild self-esteem, navigate relationship difficulties, process trauma, or simply make sense of life’s challenges.
A counsellor won’t tell you what to do or give you quick fixes. Instead, they will work alongside you to help you:
Understand yourself and your emotions more deeply
Identify patterns of thought or behaviour that may be holding you back
Develop healthier ways of coping and relating to others
Build resilience, confidence, and emotional balance
Counselling is not just about managing difficulties — it’s also about personal growth and self-awareness. It offers the opportunity to gain new perspectives, strengthen relationships, and create positive, lasting change in your life.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps people recover from trauma, distressing experiences, and painful memories that continue to affect their lives. Originally developed to support military veterans with PTSD, EMDR is now widely used to treat a broad range of emotional and psychological challenges.
EMDR works by helping the brain reprocess and integrate difficult memories, allowing you to experience them without the same emotional intensity. This process helps to:
Reduce emotional triggers and anxiety
Calm the nervous system
Change negative self-beliefs
Build confidence and self-esteem
Set healthy boundaries
Create lasting change within the brain
Because EMDR supports the brain’s natural healing process, the changes it brings are long-lasting and scientifically proven.
At our practice, EMDR is offered by by our Director Roxanne and is available both in person in Watford and online. Sessions are gentle and paced at a level that feels right for you, helping you move towards greater calm, balance, and resilience.

Each counsellor at our practice shares the same compassionate, client-centred ethos — but brings their own experience and perspective.
Whether you’re seeking deep emotional healing, clarity about your next steps, or practical strategies to manage daily life, we can help.
Whoever you work with at The Counselling Practice, you’ll be met with empathy, professionalism, and respect.
We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy.
We meet you where you are — and walk alongside you as you heal, grow, and reconnect with yourself.

I’m Roxanne, Director of The Counselling Practice, a counsellor and EMDR therapist. I’m an Accredited Counsellor with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I’m also registered with Aviva, WPA, and Vitality Health Insurance.
With over seven years’ experience, I’ve supported people through anxiety, trauma, depression, anger, phobias, stress, and low mood. I’ve worked in schools with teenagers, in charities supporting those with life-changing diagnoses including Cancer, Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, and Epilepsy. I’ve also worked with organisations specialising in trauma, addictions, and eating disorders.
I started this practice because I know what it’s like to look fine on the outside while quietly feeling anxious, never enough, or emotionally drained. Growing up around complex family dynamics taught me how deeply early experiences shape our self-worth and relationships. Over time, I learned the power of boundaries, compassion, and emotional healing — lessons I now bring to my work and my team.
My focus is on helping you feel safe, understood, and in control again. I use an integrative, compassionate approach to help calm your nervous system, ease anxiety, and reduce the impact of past experiences. Together, we’ll build a sense of safety and balance — helping both your mind and body feel more at peace.
I’m also trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, an evidence-based method that helps the brain process and heal from distressing or traumatic experiences. EMDR can gently reduce the emotional intensity of painful memories, helping you move forward with greater calm, clarity, and confidence.
